is it me? people put this stuff in Skype or twiddor, or messenger addresses.
for people with Skype , or people using twittor, you could click on that and say call "I dunno" or "Not on your life"
Why not make it so if its not proper sintax, you can't enter it?
or am i veing overly picky?
Not sure what your trying to say Mate?
You're being overly picky.
they are meaning that on our profile it asks us for our skype and twitter user names so that other zone members can add us. A lot of people put things like the title ofthis post, instead of their real user names. So they are asking if it can be made so that you can not enter a user name in these edit fields unless they are real.
It's not a big deal, I suppose, but I do agree with John. when I click to get a list of people with Skype or twitter, I do hate to have to scroll through all the smart ass answers and weed out the ones who actually have a real skype profile in the space provided.
Actually, I do agree with this. I honestly didn't think I was going to, until someone explained it better. Thanks. it would be different if the usernames weren't actually linked, but because they are, it can be a bit annoying. The only problems I can see with this are:
1. this would require that the username actually be varified with the account when people actually want to enter their real username. I don't know how difficult this would be, but at the very least, it would require some extra work on the part of the staff.
And,
2. Honestly, you should be able to tell the difference between the smart ass comments and the real usernames. Sure, if you're looking at the list of all twitter/Skype users, it can be a bit annoying, but do you honestly think "not on your life", or "Kiss my ass", for example, would be real usernames? I certainly wouldn't click on those.
you're definitely being incredibly picky.
if you're unable to tell the difference between which usernames are fake, and which are real, that's poor judgment on your part. I mean, would you really waste time clicking on a username you see labeled "kiss me"? maybe you would, but again, that'd be no fault but your own.
No, I'd not click on these. To picky I say.
i dont clikc on them either.
and verify them? i dont even see how that would be possible.
yeah talkin 'bout when you look at the long list of skype names for instance.
thought i may have been being picky, but thought I'd put it out there anyway.
not that its a huge deal to go past the smartass names, but eh.
its all good right ?
I do agree with you that it would be nice not to have these linked. I just think that it would either be impossible, or a lot of extra work.
i'm just a user, not a programmer, so have no idea what really goes into any suggestion i make to be totaly honest.
I don't think it's a big deal, but when I scroll through the list of users trying to find legitimate ones and pass 20 or 30 stupid answers, it gets incredibly irritating. I think it would be a good idea to spread the word about the way these lists work, and at least hope some people would be smart enough to remove this from their profiles. A request to ask for usernames goes in the bio, not in the fields for said usernames. It might also be worth having a report button on everyone's s profile for this exact circumstance.
I also notice that many people have a username with spaces in it (example: Ask and you may receive"). Under no circumstance can a skype or twitter name have spaces in it. So it may be worth coding a warning that is triggered by a seemingly incorrect username, and mention that the username entered must be real because it's linked from the user directory.
I think that's all I've got for now.
I've to agree with that. If someone is not interested in giving their id's, they can just leave it blank instead of typing something like "earn it". "only for special". or even something vigorous.
Raaj.
Yeah. then they can give it out to whomever they wish on the zone.
Totaly agree with ya, Raaj.
If you don't want to give out your skype or twitter information, just leve the field blank. Why are people turning this into such a big deal when it doesn't have to be?
I think people just haven't realized the skype directory is public, so they put stupid things in the fields because they don't want to give out their information. It would make perfect sense if that information didn't break the directory.
